Living Sacrifice: With All My Heart

This chapter of the book is about Dr. Roseveare and her mission trip in Africa. She talks mostly of the struggles and hardships that affected her physically, mentally, but most of all spiritually during her time there. Reading through her experiences reminded me of when I used to go on missions every summer and how similar my spiritual battles were to hers. People tend to go into the missionary field with their hearts and heads held up high ready to do work- but often times that is the problem. Rather than doing work, we should be doing God's work. We go in full of pride ready to help the "poor and impoverished", but God wants to break us down and get rid of that so that we may learn to truly love others. To have pride means to have content for oneself, which leads to self-reliance and then ultimately self-pity when you face failure. This is why we need to break free of our prides when we go into missions and have our reliance solely upon the Lord. I pray for my youth group kids including my family who will be going on a missions trip this summer (most of which is their first time!) that they will rid of their pride of education and luxury and truly do God's work and glorify His kingdom. I also pray that not only will they preach and spread the gospel but that they will get a taste of heaven as well like they have never felt in the U.S. before. I pray that their hearts and eyes may be opened to new things and that they may grow through this experience. Spiritually preparing oneself for a missions trip is so crucial; you wouldn't go to war without equipping yourself of a gun and shield. Ah I am excited for them! I shall continue on to read the next chapter which is titled as "With All My Soul".
