Samuel 1:3 The Lord Calls Samuel

First off, I'd like to note that I thought it kinda funny when God called out to Samuel three times and each time Samuel would think that it was Eli who kept calling for him, and Eli just kept sending him back to bed.. Eli must have became pretty annoyed hehe. Speaking of hearing God, however, it's amazing how loud and clear Samuel could hear God's voice that he would actually think that it was coming from the other room. For many of us--especially me-- I sometimes have struggle with deciphering God's voice from my own thoughts and sometimes from Satan's. I wish hearing God's voice was as clear and real like hearing my mom calling me to clean my room or eat dinner. I know some people claim that they would actually hear the Lord's voice calling out to them directly; but I think for me and others, it's more of a strong tug at the heart that is God's way of telling us something.

I also thought it was neat in verse 11: "And the Lord said to Samuel: See I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle." (Samuel 1:11)

You know when somebody is about to tell you a secret--especially when they whisper it into your ear, your ear and your whole side of your body kinda gets that little goosebumpy feeling? It's exciting. It's an exciting feeling because it's something you've never heard before whether good or bad news. Just imagine how much more of that tingling sensation you'd get when God wants to share a secret exclusively with you. *tingle* ..hehe

On a last note, I also wanted to point out the obedience of Samuel. When Eli realized that Samuel was hearing the voice of God, he told Samuel to go back to bed and lie there and just accept and submit to the Lord's calling. And that's exactly what Sam did. "Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening." (Samuel 1:10) I hope and pray that we could all learn a thing or two from Sammy and just obey the Lord and listen to whatever He has to say with eager hearts.
