Matthew 13 (part I): Parable of the Sower

Sad to say but I think this is the first time I've read this parable with my heart and not just with my mind. Jesus talks about seeds a farmer sows: 1) Seeds that fall along the road 2) Seeds that fall on rocky places, 3) seeds that fall among the weeds, and 4) seeds that land on good soil.

I first went into this chapter thinking that I'm probably the one that landed on good soil (HA..), but as I read on, my heart revealed to me something different. This is what it showed me, "The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away (v.20-21)." I love listening to sermons because I feel so connected with God, like He is directly speaking to me through the speaker. If God is angry with me, He gives me a sermon of rebuking; if He is comforting me, He sends me a message of love and encouragement. This is how he spoke to me today. I've got the first part down; I hear the Word and am blessed by it. But then temptation comes and I immediately fall. I forget to apply the Word to my life consistently and persistently. I am the seed that falls in rocky places. Wherever our seeds may fall, we should all strive to fall on the good soil, so that we may produce the crop of God's kingdom.

Which seed are you?
