Seek Him First

Matthew 6:33
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

There seems to be a pattern in my life when it comes to idols. The pattern being that with everything that I put in front of God, He takes it away. Like a parent taking away candy or toys from their child's hands, God does the same thing to me. What's wrong with kids eating candy or playing with toys? Nothing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with children indulging in sweets from time to time; but only in moderation. When we take something that holds interest to us, and it begins to consume our mind and thoughts, they become an idol. We are putting that object or idea before God. But God says that if we seek His kingdom first, if we put Him above all else, He will give us all these things. What are these things? Putting into context, this chapter talks of worrying. Worrying about what to wear, how we will eat the next day, etc. God always provides. If we seek Him first, He will provide for us and always put our best interest at heart. So I thank God for giving and taking away things in my life, because I know that He does this ultimately for my good and well-being.
