“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”- 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
The Word of God is a big source of my comfort. So when others come to me with problems, I seek the Scripture because a lot of times, I don't know how to respond. When your friend's parent passes away, I have no words that would comfort them because I've never lost anyone close to me. But I always try to direct them to what the Bible says because I know that it's gotten me through some tough times, and it has something to comfort every wounded soul and replenish even the driest of wells.
