I know I already did a QT on this before but it's still stuck in my head..
"17Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins." James 4:17
We as humans are critical upon everything, constantly judging and analyzing people and their systems. Growing up, I saw and still see it around Koreans a lot. I remember ahjummas constantly talking and gossiping about other people and how this person is doing that wrong and things should be done this way instead of that way. Looking around ourselves, we are not that much different. We judge others and look down on them with a critical eye always shaking our heads at the ones who don't seem to be "getting it right" with God, and it just stops there. Doesn't go any further than that. Rather than recognizing the problem and making steps to solve them, we only recognize the problem and dwell upon it. But James 4:17 says that if we know something should be done, but we don't do it, we are sinning. If we are always sitting on the sidelines or part of the audience always observing and being critical yet don't do anything to help or fix it, there's something wrong with that. In psych they call that the bystander effect. It's the phenomena that in a case of an emergency, individuals are not willing to jump in and help because they think that there will be someone else who will jump in instead. Like in the famous case of Kitty Genovese where a young lady named Kitty was raped and murdered in a public neighborhood, but no one bothered to call the police even though they heard her cries for help. They knew the good that ought have to be done, but did not do so. I get very passionate when it comes to serving. So naturally, bench-warming Christians are one of my biggest pet peeves. I mean sure, there is a time and place for everyone, but you'll never know unless you step up and try right? It just takes courage... And I know that that's extremely easy to say but difficult to do, but if not now then when will we finally step out of our comfort zones and take action? If not now, when???
